What does liquid collagen taste like?

Ours tastes of berry, the one pack we can answer for. Core™, our liquid marine collagen, has a natural berry flavour.1 Pour a portion and berry is what you taste.

Core™ can be a flavoured drink in the first place because its collagen is hydrolysed, and hydrolysed collagen is highly soluble in water. That solubility allows it to be formulated as a ready-to-drink liquid.2 The authors of a peer-reviewed review name higher solubility as a main advantage of hydrolysed collagen over native collagen.2

For you, that means the collagen arrives already dissolved in a finished drink, with the flavour chosen when the drink was made. Your part is to pour it.

A portion of Core™ is small, measured in the pack's own cap.1 You taste it once a day.

What flavour is Core™?

Core™ has a natural berry flavour, and two more phrases on the label sit beside it: sugar free and fat free.1 The table gathers everything the label says that bears on taste.

Is it sugar free?

Yes, Core™ is sugar free and fat free.1 Both phrases mean something exact, because on a food label in the EU they are defined terms. A maker cannot print them on a whim.

The definitions sit in the Annex of Regulation (EC) 1924/2006, the EU rule on nutrition claims. Each has its own requirement.

  • Sugars-free. A food may be described this way only if it contains no more than 0.5 g of sugars per 100 g or 100 ml.3
  • Fat-free. The same Annex sets the same kind of ceiling: no more than 0.5 g of fat per 100 g or 100 ml.3
  • What counts as "sugars". For EU labelling purposes the word means all monosaccharides and disaccharides present in food, excluding polyols.4

On a label, "sugars-free" is a threshold with a number attached, telling you the sugars in the food sit at or under 0.5 g per 100 ml.

You will also meet a different phrase on shop shelves: "with no added sugars". It is a separate claim with its own condition, and may only be made where the product contains no added mono- or disaccharides or any other food used for its sweetening properties.3 The two phrases answer different questions, so read whichever one is printed on the pack in front of you. The one on Core™ is sugar free.

Label and taste meet in the next section, where a buyer mentions both in a single line.

What do buyers say about the taste?

A verified buyer called the taste amazing and added that it is sugar free. Suzanne H. bought our liquid marine collagen, as sold under our manufacturer's own label, in the United Kingdom and left her review on 26 August 2024. Taste is the first thing she mentions, and "sugar free" is the second.

“The taste is amazing and it is sugar free! Love what it does to my hair, nails and skin.”

A verified buyer review of our liquid marine collagen, as sold under our manufacturer's own label.

It is one person's opinion, printed as she wrote it, and taste is personal. Even so, a buyer who paid for the pack chose to open her review with the flavour.

Two other verified buyers in our file wrote about their skin. You can read all three reviews, alongside longer published accounts of marine collagen, in our page of liquid collagen reviews.

What are the three ways to drink it?

You can drink Core™ straight, stirred into water or stirred into a smoothie, and all three are the same serving: one portion a day.1 Shake the pack, pour into the cap, then pick the one that suits your palate.

  • Straight. Drink the portion from the cap.
  • In water. Stir the portion into a glass of water for a longer drink.
  • In a smoothie. Stir the portion into your smoothie.

How much water is up to you. The serving is the same each way: one portion with 11,000 mg of hydrolysed marine collagen.1

The directions add that an opened pack of Core™ is kept in the fridge.1 Our guide on how to store liquid collagen covers the pack between servings, and how to take liquid collagen walks through the daily steps.

Each pack leaves you plenty of room to try all three ways and settle on a favourite.

In our user trial, 106 women took our liquid marine collagen every day for 8 weeks, and 99% found it easy to include in their daily routine.1

That figure is about routine, a drink taken every day for 8 weeks and found easy to include. The same women also reported what they noticed in the mirror.

8-week user trial of our liquid marine collagen, 106 women. Figures are shares of participants.

Women in that trial reported visible results in as little as 4 weeks, with further improvement by week 8.1 A daily drink is a small ritual repeated for weeks, which is why flavour earns a page of its own.
