What is marine collagen?
Marine collagen is collagen taken from fish skin and hydrolysed, which means it is broken down into short chains called collagen peptides. It is rich in type I collagen, the same type that makes up 80% to 90% of the collagen in human skin, alongside type III, which sits next to it in young skin.1
Because the peptides are small, they dissolve completely in liquid, which makes marine collagen well suited to a ready-to-drink portion with nothing to stir and nothing to swallow whole.

Women take marine collagen because skin makes less of its own collagen with age, the protein that keeps skin firm, plump and springy: from early adulthood the skin makes about 1.0% to 1.5% less of it every year,1 and the change speeds up later, with as much as 30% of skin collagen lost in the first five years after menopause.2
For that reason a daily collagen habit appeals to women from their thirties onward. You are giving your body a steady supply of the same peptides its own collagen is built from every day.
Does your body absorb marine collagen?
Yes, hydrolysed collagen is absorbed. When researchers gave volunteers hydrolysed collagen to drink, collagen peptides appeared in their blood and peaked within one to two hours.3 The peptides travel through the bloodstream to the skin, where collagen is made.
Native collagen is a large molecule of around 300,000 daltons, while the marine collagen in Core™ is hydrolysed down to a low molecular weight of about 1,500 daltons, roughly 200 times smaller, so every portion arrives in a form that is ready to be absorbed.10
What does marine collagen do for skin?
Studies of daily collagen in women recorded better skin hydration first and then smoother, firmer, more elastic skin, and skin is where the evidence is deepest.
Hydration up by week 6, wrinkles and elasticity by week 12
Women taking 1,000 mg of low-molecular-weight fish collagen peptide a day had significantly higher skin hydration than the placebo group after 6 weeks. By week 12, crow's-feet wrinkling and skin elasticity had improved significantly too.4

Wrinkle score down 35% on one side of the face
Women taking 10 g of hydrolysed fish collagen a day saw their wrinkle score fall 35% from baseline on the right side of the face, a 24% greater reduction than placebo.5

Better hydration and elasticity across 1,721 people
A 2023 analysis pooled 26 randomised controlled trials and found that oral collagen significantly improved both skin hydration and skin elasticity compared with placebo. The hydration effect was larger when collagen was taken for more than 8 weeks.7

90 days: fewer wrinkles, more elasticity
A 2021 analysis of 19 double-blind trials, with participants who were about 95% women, concluded that 90 days of hydrolysed collagen reduced wrinkles and improved skin elasticity and hydration.8

Does marine collagen help hair and nails?
Women who take collagen consistently report healthier hair and stronger nails, and one 24-week study of daily collagen peptides measured faster nail growth and fewer broken nails. Hair and nails are built from protein.
- Nails: in a 24-week study of daily collagen peptides, nail growth rate rose 12% and the frequency of broken nails fell 42%. Eight in ten participants agreed their nails looked better.9
- Hair: in the 8-week trial of our liquid marine collagen, 86% of 106 women reported healthier hair.10
- Nails, again: in that same trial, 76% reported stronger nails.10
Core™ adds biotin and selenium to the same portion. Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and skin, and selenium to the maintenance of normal hair and nails.

The clinical study: wrinkles and spots under skin imaging
In the clinical study, ten women took our liquid marine collagen daily for 8 weeks and had their skin analysed with imaging before and after. The results showed a visible reduction in multiple signs of skin ageing, including eye and forehead wrinkles, pigmentation, redness and spots, along with improved skin texture.10

What women say about marine collagen
Women describe plumper, more hydrated and more radiant skin, softer fine lines and better nails and hair, in the words of beauty writers who tested marine collagen and published what happened, and of verified buyers of our liquid marine collagen.
“And truthfully? My skin looks better than ever.”
A self-confessed sceptic, she took marine collagen every day for two months and found her skin plumper, healthier and noticeably more radiant.
Shannon LawlorBeauty editor, writing in Marie Claire UK11
“To my surprise, these worked.”
After around six months on 10,000 mg of marine collagen a day, she reported glowier, more even skin that held on to hydration for longer, and nails that were less brittle.
Charlotte BitmeadWriting in Stylist12
“My nails were the best I had ever had in my whole life.”
She started marine collagen after turning 40. Her skin looked more hydrated within the first month, fine lines had almost faded by month three, and by month six her hair felt thicker and fuller.

How to take marine collagen, and how long to give it
Take marine collagen once a day, every day, over a 60-day course. The studies above used between 1 g and 10 g of collagen peptides daily. One portion of Core™ gives you 11,000 mg, so a single measure covers it.
- When: any time you will remember, and morning with breakfast is the easiest habit to keep.
- How: shake, pour into the cap, drink it straight or stir it into water or a smoothie.
- How long: hydration improved by week 6 in the clinical studies, and wrinkles and elasticity by weeks 8 to 12. Plan on a 60-day course.

How long does marine collagen take to work?
Skin hydration improved within 6 weeks in a clinical study of fish collagen peptides, and wrinkles and elasticity within 12 weeks. In our own 8-week user trial, women reported visible results in as little as 4 weeks, with further improvement by week 8.
What does marine collagen do for women?
In studies in women, daily collagen improved skin hydration, elasticity, density and wrinkle depth, and women also report stronger nails and healthier hair. Marine collagen supplies type I and type III collagen peptides, the types found in skin.
Is marine collagen a good choice for skin?
Yes, marine collagen is a good choice for skin because it is rich in type I, the type that makes up 80% to 90% of skin collagen. The authors of a 2023 meta-analysis of 26 trials described fish as the optimal source of collagen for improving skin hydration.
How much marine collagen should I take a day?
Clinical studies have used 1 g to 10 g of collagen peptides a day. Jadenmoor Core™ provides 11,000 mg of hydrolysed marine collagen in one portion.
Should I take vitamin C with marine collagen?
Yes, and Core™ already includes 120 mg of vitamin C, which is 150% of the daily reference value, in the same portion as the collagen. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin.
Is liquid marine collagen better than powder or capsules?
Liquid marine collagen is the easier format to take, because it is already dissolved, so there is nothing to mix and nothing to swallow whole. A single portion of Core™ carries 11,000 mg, a dose that would take a handful of capsules to match.
