How our collagen is tested: the user trial and the clinical study

You should be able to see the evidence behind a collagen before you buy it. Both studies of our liquid marine collagen formula are set out below, with who took part, for how long, what was recorded and what came back.

In short

Yes, twice. Our liquid marine collagen formula went through an 8-week user trial of 106 women and an 8-week clinical study of 10 women with skin imaging.

  • User trial. 106 women drank it daily for 8 weeks and reported what they noticed.
  • Clinical study. 10 women drank it daily for 8 weeks and had their skin analysed with imaging before and after.
  • Who commissioned them. Both were commissioned by our manufacturer.
Tested on our collagen
95%

of 106 women felt that the appearance of their skin improved after 8 weeks on our liquid marine collagen.

  • 89%reported more moisture and glow
  • 87%noticed fewer fine lines and wrinkles
  • 81%reported firmer skin

Has our collagen been tested?

Yes, our collagen has been tested in two separate studies. Both looked at our liquid marine collagen formula, taken daily, and both ran for 8 weeks.1

The two studies answer different questions, which is why we show them side by side. The user trial asks a large group of women what they noticed. The clinical study analyses the skin of a small group with imaging before and after, so the change is there to see in pictures.

You will want to know where they came from too. The studies were commissioned by our manufacturer.1 We hold the data on file and set the results out here, so you can judge them for yourself.

What was the 8-week user trial?

In our 8-week user trial, 106 women took our liquid marine collagen daily and reported on their skin, hair and nails, and on how the drink fitted into their day.1 A user trial is the simplest kind of study to understand, because people use the product, then say what happened.

That makes its results first-hand reports. Each trial percentage on this page is a share of those 106 women, and each one carries the verb the women answered to: felt, reported or noticed.

On timing, women in the trial reported visible results in as little as 4 weeks, with further improvement by week 8.1

What did the 106 women report?

After 8 weeks of daily use, 99% of the 106 women found it easy to include in their daily routine, 95% felt that the appearance of their skin improved and 89% reported more moisture and glow. The tiles below give every figure from the user trial, each a share of those 106 women.1

User trial of our liquid marine collagen: 106 women, daily intake, 8 weeks. Each figure is the share of women who gave that answer.

The first tile deserves a second look, because both studies were built on daily intake, and 99% of the women in the trial found it easy to include in their daily routine.

Trial participants also reported more energy and better joint flexibility.1 Those two answers were recorded as reports, so we pass them on as reports.

Women in the trial were also photographed before and after, and two of those pairs are shown below.

What was the clinical study?

The clinical study was an imaging study in which 10 women took our liquid marine collagen daily for 8 weeks, and their skin was analysed with imaging before and after.1

It is a small, close study. The user trial gives you breadth across 106 women, and this one adds depth, with a before image and an after image of the skin itself to compare.

We publish this study as images and plain findings. It produced pictures and a list of what changed in them, and you will find both below.

What did the imaging show?

After 8 weeks, the imaging showed a visible reduction in eye wrinkles, forehead wrinkles, spots, pigmentation and redness, and improved skin texture.1

  • Eye wrinkles: a visible reduction.
  • Forehead wrinkles: a visible reduction.
  • Spots: a visible reduction.
  • Pigmentation and redness: a visible reduction in both.
  • Skin texture: improved.

Image pairs from the study are shown here, labelled before and after.

Read the two studies side by side. In the user trial, 87% of 106 women noticed a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. In the clinical study, imaging showed a visible reduction in eye wrinkles and forehead wrinkles.1 The first is what women saw in the mirror, and the second is what the images recorded.

How is it made?

Core™ is made in Sweden to GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000 standards.1 Those standards are the whole of our manufacturing statement, and we print them exactly as they stand.

The product specification is short enough to read in one go:

  • Collagen: 11,000 mg of hydrolysed marine collagen, types I and III, in one portion.
  • Protein: 9.9 g per portion.
  • Pack: 500 ml.
  • Taste: natural berry flavour, sugar free and fat free.
  • Peptide size: hydrolysed to a low molecular weight of about 1,500 daltons.

To put that last line in scale, native collagen is about 300,000 daltons, roughly 200 times larger than the peptides in Core™.1 Our article on what hydrolysed collagen is explains why the size is on the specification at all.

How do these results compare with published trials?

Our results can be set beside published trials one study at a time, each under its own name, because our two studies are about one formula, our own, while published trials are about other collagen products, each with its own dose, its own participants and its own way of measuring. Three of them follow, with the article that covers each in full.

  • Eye wrinkles at 8 weeks. In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 114 women aged 45 to 65, eye-wrinkle volume was about 20% lower than placebo after 8 weeks on 2.5 g of collagen peptides a day.2 See collagen for wrinkles.
  • Fish collagen at 12 weeks. In a randomised, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial in women aged 45 to 60, the wrinkle score fell 35% from baseline on the right side of the face after 12 weeks on 10 g of hydrolysed fish collagen a day.3 See collagen before and after.
  • The pooled view. A meta-analysis of 19 randomised double-blind trials with 1,125 participants: the authors reported that 90 days of hydrolysed collagen reduced wrinkles and improved skin elasticity and hydration.4 See do collagen supplements work?

Those papers show what collagen peptides did in other people's studies. Ours show what women reported, and what imaging showed, after 8 weeks on our liquid marine collagen, and both are here for you to read.

Questions about how our collagen is tested

Is there a clinical study of Jadenmoor collagen?

There is a clinical study of our liquid marine collagen formula. 10 women took it daily for 8 weeks and had their skin analysed with imaging before and after. The imaging showed a visible reduction in eye wrinkles, forehead wrinkles, spots, pigmentation and redness, and improved skin texture.

Who commissioned the studies?

Both studies were commissioned by our manufacturer. The data is on file with Jadenmoor, and the results are published on this page.

How many women took part?

106 women took part in the user trial and 10 women in the clinical study. In both, the women took our liquid marine collagen daily for 8 weeks.

How soon did women in the trial see a difference?

Women in the user trial reported visible results in as little as 4 weeks, with further improvement by week 8. By the end, 95% felt that the appearance of their skin had improved.

What is the difference between a user trial and a clinical study?

Our user trial recorded what 106 women noticed themselves, while our clinical study analysed the skin of 10 women with imaging before and after. One gives you first-hand reports from a large group, the other gives you images of the skin.

Where is the collagen made?

In Sweden, to GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000 standards. Each portion of Core™ holds 11,000 mg of hydrolysed marine collagen, types I and III.
