The 60-day collagen routine: one portion a day, every day

A routine only works if it is small enough to repeat. This one takes four steps and the cap of a pack. We walk you through each day, show how the 60 days divide into phases by week, and set out what named studies recorded at the points you will pass along the way.

In short

The 60-day collagen routine is a single portion of Core™ every day for 60 days. It runs just past 8 weeks, the length of our own user trial.

  • Four steps a day. Shake the pack, pour into the cap, drink, then put the pack back in the fridge.
  • Three phases. Weeks 1 to 4 build the habit, weeks 5 to 8 take you to the 8-week readings, and the last few days carry you past them.
  • Daily, for 8 weeks. Our own user trial of 106 women followed this pattern with our liquid marine collagen.

What is the 60-day collagen routine?

The 60-day collagen routine is one portion of Core™ a day, repeated for 60 days, which makes it the simplest plan we can give you. There is nothing to work out: one portion, once a day, every day.1

Nothing else is attached to it. You will not find a loading week, a schedule that changes halfway, or a list of things to give up. The portion stays the same size from the first pour to the last, and each one holds 11,000 mg of hydrolysed marine collagen, types I and III.1

Where other articles on our blog go deep on a single question, such as our piece on collagen courses and breaks, this one stays practical. It covers what you do each morning, afternoon or evening, and how the days add up.

How do you take a collagen portion each day?

Shake the pack, pour a portion into the cap, drink it, then return the pack to the fridge: four steps, with no spoon, scoop or glass required unless you want one. The instructions come straight from the product specification.1

  1. Step one

    Shake

Pick up the pack and shake it before the lid comes off.

  2. Step two

    Pour

Use the cap as your measuring cup and pour the portion into it. The cap holds one full serving.

  3. Step three

    Drink

Have it straight from the cap. If you like a longer drink, tip the portion into a glass of water or blend it through a smoothie.

  4. Step four

    Chill

Put the lid on and return the pack to the fridge, where an opened pack is kept until it is finished.

With the pack back in the fridge, the day's routine is done, and tomorrow's is identical. Core™ has a natural berry flavour and is sugar free and fat free, so the choice between cap, water and smoothie comes down to what you enjoy.1 For more on the drink itself, our guide to liquid marine collagen covers what is in the pack.

What does a 60-day routine look like, week by week?

At one portion a day, the 60 days pass the points where named studies took their readings: week 4 ends on day 28 and week 8 on day 56. Beside each phase, the table notes what a named study, or our own trial, recorded at a reading that falls around that point.

Read the right-hand column as a record, not a forecast. Each published study had its own participants, its own collagen and its own dose, all stated in the row. Our trial figures are for our liquid marine collagen.

Which days each phase covers, and what a named study or our own trial recorded at a reading around that point.

PhaseDaysWhat was recorded around this point, and by whom
Weeks 1 to 4Days 1 to 28. This is where the four steps become familiar.Week 4 closes this phase. Our user trial: women reported visible results in as little as 4 weeks.1 Proksch 2014: in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 114 women aged 45 to 65, with 2.5 g of collagen peptides a day, eye-wrinkle volume was significantly lower than placebo after 4 weeks.2 Sangsuwan 2021: in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 36 postmenopausal women, 5 g of marine collagen hydrolysate a day for 4 weeks improved cheek skin elasticity compared with placebo.3
Weeks 5 to 8Days 29 to 56.Week 8 closes this phase. Our user trial: after 8 weeks, 95% of 106 women felt the appearance of their skin improved, and women reported further improvement by week 8.1 Proksch 2014: eye-wrinkle volume was significantly lower than placebo after 8 weeks, by about 20%.2
Past week 8Day 57 to day 60, and any days you carry on beyond it.Pu 2023: a meta-analysis of 26 randomised controlled trials with 1,721 participants found oral collagen significantly improved skin hydration and elasticity compared with placebo. The hydration effect was larger when collagen was taken for more than 8 weeks.4
Every entry names the study it comes from. The published studies used their own collagen and doses, as stated. The table shows when readings were taken, not what any given week will do.

The left-hand columns give you three markers to look out for: day 28, day 56 and day 60. If you would like the evidence set out over a longer stretch, see our timeline of when collagen results were measured.

Why 60 days?

Sixty days is a round figure that covers the length of our own user trial, with a few days to spare.

In the user trial of our liquid marine collagen, 106 women took it daily for 8 weeks, and their answers were collected on that schedule.1 Week 8 ends on day 56, so a 60-day routine carries you through those same 8 weeks and a little beyond.

Pooled research has looked at duration too, in a 2023 meta-analysis that combined 26 randomised controlled trials and 1,721 participants. Its finding on timing was specific to one measure: the effect on skin hydration was larger when collagen was taken for more than 8 weeks.4

Sixty days, then, matches how our trial was run and takes you past the 8-week point the pooled research looked at.

How do you keep the habit?

Tie the portion to something you already do each day. In our user trial, 99% of the 106 women said our liquid marine collagen was easy to include in their daily routine.1 The routine asks very little, and these ideas keep it that way.

  • Pick a moment you will keep. The directions for Core™ say one portion a day, so tie it to something you already do every day.
  • Let the fridge remind you. An opened pack belongs in the fridge anyway. Stand it at the front of a shelf you open every day and it does the remembering for you.
  • Trust the cap. The cap is the measure, so there is nothing to wash, weigh or look up. You pour, drink and put the lid back on.
  • Count in weeks. Sixty days can sound long. Take it one week at a time, and it is eight of them with a few days over.
  • Change the serve, not the portion. Have it straight on Monday, in water on Tuesday and in a smoothie at the weekend, and it is the same every time.

The whole purpose of the routine is to make the daily portion easy for you.

Questions about the 60-day collagen routine

How do I take collagen every day?

With Core™, the product specification gives four steps: shake the pack, pour a portion into the cap, drink it, and return the pack to the fridge. You can drink the portion straight or stir it into water or a smoothie.

When in the day do I take the portion?

At any time of day you will keep to: the instruction for Core™ is one portion a day, and it leaves the hour to you. Our user trial describes its schedule the same way: 106 women took our liquid marine collagen daily for 8 weeks.

Can I mix a collagen portion into another drink?

Yes. The directions for Core™ say to drink it straight or stir it into water or a smoothie. The serving is whichever way you have it.

Does liquid collagen need to go in the fridge?

Once opened, yes. Core's directions are to keep the pack in the fridge after opening.

Why is the course 60 days and not 8 weeks?

Our user trial ran for 8 weeks, which ends on day 56. A 60-day routine therefore covers the full 8 weeks of the trial schedule and runs a little beyond it.
